What is Force?
- Force is a physical cause that can change the position or dimension of any object or trying to change.
- You will notice that each of these actions is either push or pull.
- Pushes and Pulls are Forces. The direction in which an object is pushed or pulled is called the direction of a force.
- We apply force to perform various activities--To lift a glass of water,To ride a bicycle, To push the switch a TV Set to put it on, or to open the car door to get in.
Activity 1( Critical Thinking)
To identify any action as a push or pull. Look at the pictures in fig-1.1. Identify the action in each picture as pushing, pulling, lifting, kicking, stopping, throwing, etc. Then try to see if the action can be grouped as a push or pull.
Activity 2 (Resultant Force)
- The net affect of two forces acting on a body.
Can you together push it more easily? Why?
Now push the object again, but ask your friend to push it from the opposite direction.
- Force can make a stationary object move or can change its position of rest.
- Force can change the speed of a moving object.
- Force can change the direction of motion of a moving object.
- Force can change the shape or size of an object.
Types Of Force
- Contact Force
- Non-Contact Force
Contact Force
Contact Force are forces that act between two objects when they are in physically contact with each other.
Eg:- Muscular Forces, Frictional Forces.
Non-Contact Force
Non-contact Force are forces that act between two objects that are not physically touching each other.
Eg:-Gravitational Forces, Magnetic Forces.
